Over the past six months or so, I have been getting more into using Instagram and I must say I am really loving it. I am getting real results with new clients finding me on there PLUS I don’t seem to waste hours on end on Instagram (like I do on Facebook). So the value for my time is certainly well worth it and it being fun is an added bonus.
There are many marketers on Instagram that are using a practice to grow their following that I wanted to address.
In my opinion this practice is not only not going to get you real results but it isn’t authentic. I will let you make up your own mind.
Don’t follow hundreds of people and then unfollow
This has been something I have been watching with amusement over the past few months. I have seen business coaches and social media “experts” recommend their clients do this. Really??
If you don’t know what I am referring to, many people are following other accounts on Instagram in the hope that those accounts will then follow them back. They then turn around and un-follow those accounts (whether they have had the follow returned or not).
Now if you truly aren’t connecting with another’s posts than by all means, I have no issue with un-following others at times, but to follow people just to build your follower numbers and then immediately un-follow them, it just seems “off” to me.
The same can be said for paying for followers or blatantly asking others on their posts to follow you. It just comes off desperate and forceful.
With the new algorithm those people aren’t going to see many of your posts anyway as they haven’t been engaging with your content.
So ask yourself, is a huge following more important to you or would you prefer to have a base of quality followers who are genuinely interested in what you are offering?
Want to know the best way to get real results on Instagram?
Results that turn people into raving fans and clients that want to pay you?
It is simple, be social..
Like and comment on other people’s posts and interact with them on a regular basis.
Post content that your ideal clients will like and find helpful.
Use hashtags that your ideal clients are searching for but that are also relevant to the content you are posting.
When people comment on your posts, reply and acknowledge them.
Build a “friendship” and the results will naturally follow.
I would love to hear your thoughts. Let me know in the comments below.
