Imagine receiving free traffic to your website.
Prospective clients and customers that are looking for exactly what you are offering. And you haven’t had to pay for that click through to your website.
That is what Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) can do for you and your business.
SEO is the process of doing things both on and off your website to encourage Google (and other search engines) to show your website in the search results when someone uses a keyword that directly relates to your business, product or service.
That keyword that people use and knowing exactly what it is though, is the vital first step in getting your SEO strategy working effectively. Here is why:
- There is no value in optimising your website for a keyword that your prospective clients or customers aren’t using
- You need to be able to determine what keyword they are using when they are ready to buy in comparison to one they use if they are just browsing
When we talk about a keyword, we generally mean a keyword phrase – so one that consists of a few words. Think about your own “Googling” habits. When you are searching for something on Google that you want to buy, you usually type in a number of words so that you obtain specific results. This is what you need to keep in mind when you are optimising your website for keywords.
To conduct your Keyword Research you can start with a couple of free online tools such as Google Keyword Planner and Google Trends.
Once you have your chosen keywords you then need to ensure the content on your website page is completely relevant to that keyword. Don’t try and optimise a page for a keyword when the content on that page isn’t very specific to that keyword.
