I have seen a lot of panic and too much incorrect information being posted on Facebook Business Pages over the past week or so. I am going to do a few of posts over the next few days on all the changes that have been occurring at Facebook in relation to Business Pages and hopefully help get the correct information out there.
First of all you need to understand that Facebook is a free networking and marketing tool. If you are relying on Facebook to bring in all of your business then perhaps you need to re-think your business strategy. You don’t own your facebook page nor do you have any control over the changes that occur. You should have other strategies in place so that if Facebook suddenly disappeared your business wouldn’t be affected.
In saying that Facebook is fabulous for business if used correctly. Just ensure you shift your prospective clients or customers to your website and capture their details so that you could still keep in touch with them if Facebook was no longer an alternative.
Over the past week many business pages have been re-posting incorrect information that goes something like this:
” Facebook is changing the rules once again – if you would like to continue to see posts from this page, please follow the instructions in the image”
The image then looks like this one shown on the right.
This is not the case. When somebody likes your page the “Show in News Feed” is automatically ticked. Likers don’t need to do anything further. If someone decides to “hide” your posts this is when this option will be un-ticked.
Whether your posts are showing up in your likers News Feed is determined by many factors and is a complicated formula known as Edgerank. To ensure your posts are shown to the highest audience as possible you need to make your post engaging – encouraging people to like, comment and share. Make the content high quality and of interest to your audience on Facebook. The more popular a post is, the more Facebook will show it to more likers. The average post has a lifespan of 3 hours – after that time it won’t be seen by your likers unless they visit your page.
So just keeping posting great content!!
