Have you heard about other business owners getting lots of traffic to their website via Google Search?
Not through Google Ads, but via organic results which they don’t have to pay for?
Have you done some research yourself on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) and the information you have read all gives you conflicting advice? It all sounded too hard and you gave up even trying?
Well I am here to say, Don’t give up. It is possible for you too, to get your website to rank in Google Search results and get more potential clients or customers to your website.
But there is something that you do need to be aware of so you don’t give up too early. SEO does take time and commitment. 99% of the time, it isn’t going to happen overnight. And if anyone is promising you quick results then run quickly in the opposite direction.
SEO is a long term strategy. It’s not about doing a couple of things and then expecting to reap the benefits. It’s not about doing it for a few months and then forgetting about it.
Massive results can take 6 months or longer depending on your industry. However you can get some initial results in the shorter term. You can get rankings for some keywords in a matter of weeks. Others can take a lot longer. There are quite a few factors that come into play here.
The two big influencing factors on how long it takes to rank for a certain keyword is:
- How competitive the keyword is and how well other websites are ranking for that keyword; and
- How popular your website and business already is
So if you are wanting to rank for a highly competitive keyword and you don’t have a lot of traffic already coming to your website then it is going to take you longer but it can certainly be done.
While you are going after those competitive keywords, also focus on other keywords that may not bring as much traffic to your website but will be easier to rank for. That way you are still getting results in the interim.
You also want to make sure that your website has good technical attributes so that your visitors have a good experience when they do click through to your website. These things are also favoured by Google when looking at ranking websites in their search results:
- Ensure that the pages of your website load quickly
- Ensure your website is mobile friendly
- Ensure you have good quality content on your website
- Ensure you have a SSL Certificate installed on your website
Once you start working on your SEO, track your results. Monitor what keywords are bringing traffic to your website and check your overall rankings to ensure you are ranking for keywords that are relevant to your website.
And most importantly of all, be patient! Give it time but don’t give up. And continue to improve your knowledge on SEO.
