Do you have an Instagram account for your business but struggling to get traction with it. Perhaps you are getting some likes and comments but they are primarily from family, friends and colleagues and you are struggling to attract your ideal client and actually get paying customers contact you via your Instagram marketing.
Here are my top tips to ensure you have all the basics covered to set you up for success.
Have a clear description in your bio
Make it clear who you work with and how you can help them. It is not about you, it is about them and how you can help them.
Use hashtags
Use hashtags in every post and change them regularly. Don’t use the same set of 30 hashtags in every post otherwise Instagram will start to consider it spammy. Also monitor your results with each post and determine which hashtags are giving you the best results.
Avoid hugely popular hashtags
Each hashtag has its own search results which lists each post that uses that hashtag in chronological order. When you use a hashtag that is used by millions of accounts your post is pushed down that search result very quickly which limits your exposure.
Use all of Instagram features
In addition to doing regular posts you also want to be using IGTV, Instagram Live and Stories. Instagram likes us to use the features that keeps people on the platform longer. So give people a reason to stay longer.
Make your content “save-worthy”
Following on from the last point, provide valuable content that people will want to save for later. Instagram will reward that more than likes and comments and over time your posts will be shown to more of your followers. Even remind people in your post to save the content to refer back to later on.
Post to Instagram Stories once an hour
The more frequently you update your stories, the more often your content gets pushed to the front of your follower’s stories feed and in turn, the more likely it is to get seen. In addition, vary the type of content that you are posting on your stories.
Interact with others
You can’t expect to get results from your marketing on Instagram without engaging with others. Firstly respond to people that comment and interact with your content. Secondly find other profiles that have a similar audience to you and engage with their content in a non-spammy way.
Don’t forget to promote what you are offering
Don’t be shy in making offers and inviting people to work with you or promoting what you sell. Your followers may start following you without knowing too much about you. It is up to you to ensure that they know and that they are giving opportunities to purchase what you are offering.
