There it is, every time we post something on our Facebook Page, that tempting little “boost post” button. On each post you can see how many people have seen a particular post and I bet you are wondering how to get your posts seen by more of your likers. Perhaps you have even tried boosting a post for a few dollars to test how it works?
If you are using the “boost post” feature or have thought about it, please stop. This is taking the easy option with a pre-designed campaign set by Facebook and doesn’t allow you to effectively target your audience, manage bidding or the placement of the ads. You are paying for Facebook users to see your ad that aren’t your ideal client and you are effectively taking a chance that the right people are going to see that ad.
Instead, go in your ads manager and create the promoted post from there. Choose “Page Post Engagement” as your objective then select the post that you want to promote from the drop down list.

From there you can choose the options that suit you and your business the best:
- Do you want the ad to appear in the newsfeed or right side column or both?
- Do you want your ad to divert to a different URL than what is mentioned in the post?
- Target your audience so that you are only paying for those to see your ad who are your target market. You can target by location, gender, age, interests and more.
- Choose your daily budget and an end date if required.
- Choose whether you pay for Impressions or Clicks.
None of these options are available to you by boosting a post directly from your Facebook page.
By promoting your post through the Ads Manager you are ensuring that you are only reaching the people that you want to market your business or product to.
